Steve, I know the 4800 and 5000 uppers are the same and 99.9% sure the 4500 is the same as the 4800/5000. One of the keys is making sure you can enable the GPX pinpointer trigger/swing-support handle to fasten and lock securely onto the shaft.
That said, with the price just lowered on the SD units they have the bang for the buck. With a brand new full warranty SD2200v2 going for under $1800 I can't in good faith tell your average Joe they just have to have a GPX-4500 for five grand. You have to be into your detecting for the GPX to be worth the difference or just have the money to spend.

The 5000 did have a very good enhance mode.Fine gold was not much use in the spots l detected.The 4500 had better depth on 1.5 gram pieces up to 4 grams.The 5000 was a bit better on depth on pieces under 1.5 grams.The 4500 is a lot easier and forgiving detector to use all round.Especially for a new operator. Dignit.

It's like going from GPZ-7000 to GPX-6000 difference. But the Axiom is even better ergonomics/weight than a GPX-6000. I also know the Axiom will respond better to smaller nuggets and many varieties of gold bearing ore, specimens and spongy type gold way better than a 4500 and 5000. That part I can absolutely CONFIRM.
