JK Machining, a Michigan-based manufacturer of top-quality class 101 molds, is leveraging this 5-axis cutting method. Using shorter tools and higher cutting speeds, JK slashed their machining time by as much as four times. Additionally, the reduced chatter helps them machine high quality surface finish. In this group, you will learn about the Industry standard "Mastercam Dynamic" Toolpath type. This is a material removal strategy that can be used on all CNC Mill types, Lathes with live tooling, Mill-Turn and CNC Routers. This should be your "Go-To" For stock removal, prior to finishing. Posted January 6, 2012. Had to switch from a 3D Contour path to a Surface finish project Tpath because the ball mill I used didn't follow the surface at bottom of cut. I couldn't figure out why but I had to go with what works so I switched to the surface projected path. The geometry I chained for the 3D Contour was projected onto a compound angle.
Profile milling covers the multi-axis milling of convex and concave shapes in two and three dimensions. The larger the component and the more complicated the configuration of the machine, the more important the planning of the profile milling process becomes. The machining process should be divided into at least three operation types:
Surface/Finish/Contour was changed in ver 9 and it takes longer to process the larger files than it used to in Ver 8. But it is better with no gouges. I am processing a file as I type this that I made in Proe. It has 5000 surfaces and is making .05 steps, 7" deep with a 1" ball. Taking about 40 min to process.
This is typically done by selecting various CAM Operations or Toolpaths. An Operation or Toolpath is typically aimed at machining a particular Feature on the part, and we often refer to the Toolpath and the Feature by the same name, such as a "Hole" or a "Pocket". But not always–"2D Profiling" cuts "Vertical Walls" around the ...
It gave me a not so nice surface finish (using 1/2 2fl carbide ball). We dropped the P/L .005" and I reposted the tool path witha .0002 tolerance (no arcs - no smoothing). Finish came out much better. ... On a machine like the Roeders with advanced lookahead functionality, and depending on application, a good starting point for the fixed ...

3- Mastercam 2017 Wireframe – YouTube tutorial mastercam machine mill tool path finish contour involved in 3D free form surface programming. The focus of this coarse is the exploration of The focus of this coarse is the exploration of machining strategies and techniques that use surface models to define the tool path.
This is where advanced milling techniques come into play. By applying advanced technologies to routine parts, programmers can halve cycle times, save excess material, and lengthen tool life. This idea was the inspiration to many of the latest features in Mastercam 2023. Read on to explore some of the most valuable Mastercam milling …
Then I started adding the finish tool paths, experimenting as I go along. I have found that the constant scallop path seems to work well. At least I was able to get it to work the way I would expect. And with a contour finish for the outside, this is the result so far: I added a pencil tool path that has generated some interesting paths.
The WCS is what controls the output for the the program in relationship to how you are going to machine it on the machine. I have a part right now with 4 different Lathe Groups. It is a Vertical Mill/Turn part. I have one finish model and 4 Setups coming from that one model. It is about 800 operations and 12 tapes out of Mastercam.

Since not all parts are made of flat surfaces, end mills will invariably need to move in a non-linear path. In the case of machining circular tool paths, the path of the end mill's centerline is circular. Not surprisingly, this is referred to as Circular Interpolation. Decrease Cycle Times and Increase Shop Efficiency.
Mastercam Mill-Turn solutions now include B-Axis Contour Turning, a finishing toolpath that borrows multiaxis motion. It allows for rotation along the B-axis as the cutting tool is engaged with the material. Users can opt to keep the toolpath motion running automatically or use manual motion control. The automatic preset offers the safest ...
New B-Axis Contour Turning Toolpath. Mastercam 2023 introduces a new toolpath to the Turning suite for the Mill-Turn product. B-Axis Contour Turning is a finishing toolpath that allows for rotation of the B-axis while the tool is cutting. The toolpath features a top-down workflow and provides you with either Automatic or Manual motion control.
